What the heck is Microsoft thinking?

A Visual Studio ad I saw pop-up on a web site:


Not only does the guy look like a shotgun-wielding denizen of Deliverance country, but he’s COMPUTER GENERATED.  Someone deliberately decided to make a creepy nylon-jacket-wearing-banjo-plucking-inbred-hillbilly-looking-developer and place him in their ad, like we’ll identify with him or something. 

What the heck are they going after, the NASCAR fan market?  Have they decided sales aren’t high enough in the Ozarks?
